Research into World War 1 veterans resting, memorialised, or awaiting memorialisation at Sandgate Cemetery is nearly complete.

Approximately 1720 graves have been located so far and research continues.

Applications for the construction of unmarked graves, further research, photography and appropriate acknowledgement service on marked graves is ongoing.

Research into other cemeteries in the Hunter Region has now commenced.

  • Click a cemetery to activate. Click the CLEAR ALL button to clear the cemetery.

  • The SEARCH PANEL option is located at the top of the list of names there are two OPTIONS. Either search by CEMETERY, WAR or PERSON – DO NOT USE A COMBINATION. AFTER you use this option, you must click the CLEAR ALL button located at the top right of the search panes.

  • To clear the SEARCH PERSON option, you must scroll right up to the very top of the list and you will “Search Person”. Click this and the selection set will be refreshed.

  • Click on the the black circle with white cross to view the information, photographs and any memorabilia.

  • Distance shown on the table, is the distance from the Sandgate Cemetery Office.

  • Use the search box. Enter a surname (note, you may need to scroll through records, as the name may be also part of the text of other records), use keywords to find any information eg, original anzac, fromelle, menin gate, a particular award etc. After the word(s) are entered hit the RETURN key on your keyboard. To reset, clear the search area and click RETURN.

  • Use the Navigation buttons at the bottom of the name list to scroll through the names.
